Big 4 Minus 1 to Premiere Vevo.com

3 of the 4 major record labels, Universal, Sony and EMI will launch Vevo, a music video site. Music videos provided by these 3 major labels will be streamed by YouTube onto Vevo.com. The point of the site is to stream higher quality music videos than those seen on YouTube and to help improve the lost aura around music videos since MTV seems to be lacking the that department. The site is designed to be more like a Hulu of the music industry since Hulu is owned by several different TV networks and Vevo is owned by a few different record companies.

It is unknown the exact reason why Warner will not agree to jump on the bandwagon but creators are still in talks with the company, hoping to have them on board by early next year. Vevo.com is currently a music blog and will be launching the actual music video site tomorrow night to the United States and Canada.

This can be a very cool concept for those who regularly stream music videos on YouTube but they will need some good word of mouth and buzz marketing to get this site off the ground. Everyone has YouTube engrained in them as the go-to site for video footage. I found it interesting that one of the reasons for launching the site stated in the article was to make more money off of advertising revenue, money these labesl were losing from having music videos aired on YouTube.com. Hmmm interesting…Big 4 minus 1 OR The Thirsty Three. Oh how times have changed!
