Disco StuIn a fascinating, though brief, interview on motherboard.tv, Klaus Quirini explains how he allegedly became the world’s first club DJ. In 1953, with the words “Ladies and Gentlemen, we’ll flood the local now,” Quirini ushered in a new era of music – and most people have never heard of him. Sure, by today’s standards Quirini’s sets were fairly elementary, but they set off an explosion of Discos throughout Europe that would eventually reach the US and indirectly lead to advancements in rap and electronic music.

Quirini, now 67, went by the name DJ Heinrich because his father didn’t want the family name associated with DJing. Quirini says things have changed since Djing’s humble beginnings, and that when he played music he though of it more as a service than a unique art form. For more on Quirini’s current music habits and his luck with the frauleins, check out the article here.
