The Canvas Waiting

It’s official. a-fish-ul. AEMMP Records and Austin’s own, The Canvas Waiting are teaming up at the AEMMP Records SXSW party! Resounding in the release of their second album, A Season’s Change (2009), The Canvas Waiting, fronted by Nathan Medina on guitar and vocals, Josh Rodgers on drums, and Colin Campbell on lead guitar and Chris Applegate on bass, will share the stage with AEMMP Artists, Big Science and Pet Lions!

The guys aren’t strangers to the big stage, having shared it with acts such as The Format, Mute Math, and Matt and Kim. The guys have been spotted as Do512 Austin-local featured act, Purevolume Featured Artist, and it don’t hurt having praise from Indie Vision Music -

“each of the songs had a very distinct feel to it. This doesn’t come off as disjointed but rather works well to showcase the band’s diverse set of musical skills. It’s refreshing that each song can stand or fall on its own as opposed to them all being basically variations of each other”

You can catch The Canvas Waiting at AEMMP Records Day Party on March 20th @ 12pm! Give their songs a go, and don’t be bashful, hit them up on their Myspace and Twitter!

Lil Wayne’s Courthouse Fire Started by an Electrical Accident

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Looks like Lil Wayne really is the “Fireman.” I can see him gloating about this in a rhyme all ready, saying something like, “Middle finger to tha haters who want me to retire, I’m so hot I set the courthouse on fire!” You know its coming lol. Anyways according to sohh.com it looks like the fire that delayed Weezy’s jail sentence was caused by an electrical accident, postponing his sentence until next week. These delays for Weezy’s sentencing has become comical, with this being the second one. I guess Weezy gets one more weekend to get po’ed up on some sizzurrp, and make more random tweets about love. Gotta love it, rockstar Weezy!!

Music That Makes You Dumb?

CalTech graduate student, Virgil Griffith, conducted a study relating music preferences with SAT scores.   Results found that no particular genre stood out above the rest, but according to the chart the “smartest students” listen to Beethoven and the dumbest listen to Lil Wayne.  So what does this chart really say?  Is our intelligence affected by  the music we listen to or do we choose the music we listen to based on our intelligence?  Whether you think it is accurate or not, it is something interesting to think about.  Where do you sit within the chart?

Apple Sues HTC For Stealing iPhone Technology

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

Breaking News: Today, Apple filed a lawsuit against mobile devices maker HTC. The suit claims infringement of 20 patents related to the iPhone’s user interface, underlying architecture, and hardware. In the release, Apple owner Steve Jobs stated, “We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We’ve decided to do something about it…We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours.”

Taiwan-based HTC was the first company to manufacture a cell phone based on Google’s Android operating system, which has emerged as a significant competitor to the iPhone, AP reports. It’s also making the Nexus One phone that Google is selling directly to consumers.

Apple is already tied up in a patent lawsuit with Nokia, claiming Nokia is stealing Apple technology. Nokia says Apple is stealing its technology. Kodak is also suing Apple claiming technology theft. Basically, Apple’s patent lawyers are going to be REALLY busy for the next year or so. Good luck.

Good news for music lovers everywhere, your iPod addiction could actually be benefiting your health!

Studies show that for the mature brain, just listening to music may have what scientists call a “neuroprotective” effect.

Dr. Antonio Damasio, director of The University of Southern California’s Brain and Creativity Institute, is an expert on emotion, as well as a committed musicophile. He says, even if music did little more than lift our spirits it would still be a powerful force in maintaining physical and mental health. The pleasure that results from listening to music we love stimulates the release of neural growth factors that promote the vigor, growth and replacement of brain cells. In fact, Damasio says that just the simple act of absorbing music may help keep  minds healthy, active and resilient against injury and illness.

So, as you try to fight off that winter cold, pop some vitamin C and turn up the volume on your favorite record, it could help more than you think.

Change We Can Believe In: LMFAO’s Sky Blu Slaps Mitt Romney On The Forehead

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

You may have heard that a certain department store mannequin was confronted on a flight Monday out of Vancouver by a “violent passenger” that was escorted off the plane. What you probably didn’t hear was that said passenger was 50% of LMFAO – Sky Blu to be specific. Initially the incident was reported as being instigated by Sky Blu, but according to LMFAO’s account of the incident (posted on TMZ) it was Romney’s “Vulcan Grip” on Sky’s shoulder that caused the half-asleep rapper to tap Romney on the forehead to get him to release. Mittens’ wife screamed (oh the humanity!) and the duo was escorted off the plane and got tickets for a later flight. Contrary to some reports, Sky was not arrested. Sky Blu said he’s sure Romney is a “nice guy” but he wouldn’t vote for him.
