Familiarize yourself with… the Silversun Pickups

Friday, June 5th, 2009

2009 has already given us a list of impressive album releases, and can you believe we are only at the halfway marker for the year? Whether you are into the mainstream pop releases like U2’s No Line on the Horizon, an indie-rock release from Cursive’s Mama I’m Swollen, or the energetic alternative-rock release from the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s It’s Blitz!, 2009 has allowed for music fans of every genre to find something new to enjoy and appreciate. With all this new material being released, it seems that one release may have flown under the radar for many music fans, and it comes from a band by the name of the Silversun Pickups.

Swoon marked the Silversun Pickups’ second label release with Dangerbird Records. It premiered on the Billboard charts at the #7 spot, highlighting the fact that there must be something unique about this album. With noteworthy tracks like “It’s Nice to Know You Work Alone” and their single “Panic Switch” my attention was instantly commandeered by the album and I haven’t removed it my record player since I purchased it back in April on National Record Store Day. Their debut album, Carnavas, hooked fans into their distinct sound, especially from singer Brian Aubert’s high pitched, easily recognizable voice. Although the debut album received some attention from MTVU and major press, the Silversun Pickups have excelled with Swoon, proving to the world they know how to write a kickass rock album.

Catch the Silversun Pickups playing Lollapalooza in Grant Park the first weekend in August!
