I have always been a huge Weezer fan since the good ‘ol days. I feel people like myself have had to endure a lot with this band. I remember thinking “Beverly Hills” was a little bit out there. Before that I remember thinking “Hash Pipe” was a little out there. Then came the “Red” album and I repeatedly had to lie to myself and say it was a decent album. Which it was… Just recently I was shown a video of Weezer covering “Kids” by MGMT and “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga. I have to say this was very rad and they almost sounded better than the original versions. Tons of layered synths where the tones were dead on to the originals, and yes, Rivers is a great singer which made it a pretty good mash up of covers. However, right when I am thinking that Weezer is cool again, they go and do something so lame like collaborate on a song with Lil Wayne called “Can’t Stop Partying“. Now Rivers may be pretty smart here. I see what he is trying to do and I kind of think it’s pretty funny and genius. But, the song is absolutely terrible! Believe me I get it with the “if you can’t beat them join them” attitude. I used to enjoy a “funny” Weezer song like “El Scorcho” or even “Beverly Hills” but come on, this is going too far… I have no problem with Lil Wayne or “Weezy”, Im not saying I like him, but I don’t have a problem with him. I will probably always be a Weezer fan too. It’s just going to be pretty interesting to hear the new album “Raditude”. Though the album has an extremely kick ass name, I’m not sure if the Kenny G collaborations and Jermaine Dupri co-written songs are going to do much for me this time around. I am most certainly getting the album though, it comes with a free Weezer Snuggie! Genius.
